In 1969, with a lot of faith and 120 members (Elder) Weathers founded The Holy Temple Church Of Christ. The following year, he resigned his position at USDA to serve as a full time Pastor at Holy Temple. He was ordained in 1974 to the office of the Bishop by Bishop William L. Bonner, the presiding Apostle of the Churches of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Today, Holy Temple is a living monument to III John 2, which says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” The membership had grown and flourished as the Lord anointed Bishop Weathers with wisdom, patience and a discerning spirit. Many souls have been baptized in Jesus’ name and filled with the Holy Ghost; many souls have been healed by the miraculous healing power of God, and the saints have experienced tremendous spiritual growth and have been blessed with prosperity. The edifice itself was paid for in seven years.

In accordance with Isaiah 54:13, “And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of thy children,” the Holy Temple Christian Academy was established in 1982 and closed it’s doors in 2005. During that time the Academy had an enrollment of one hundred twenty students in grades K-4 to 8th. The establishment of the Academy was a natural outgrowth and expansion of the Christian education provided at Holy Temple on Sundays through the Nursery, Sunday School, and Junior Church while service is being held in the Main Auditorium.

The Lord has blessed Bishop Weathers’ ministry and has extended it throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area and the country. Under his guidance an effective prison ministry was established at the Lorton Correctional Facility in Lorton Virginia. He conducted weekly The GOOD NEWS radio broadcasts, then on WUST-1120AM, Washington, D.C., on Saturdays from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m., which has been aired for over 20 years. He was a member of the Apostolic Ministers Fellowship of Washington, D.C., and the Apostolic World Christian Fellowship, headquartered in South Bend, Indiana.

With burden for the continual onset of drug infiltration, Bishop Weathers recognized it as a spiritual war and orchestrated a Drug Outreach program where he conducted/sponsored seminars promoting awareness and disseminating facts and methods of drug prevention to young people, parents, educators and local officials.

As an entrepreneur, Bishop Weathers was blessed to create his own special designer line of fashions, which was tremendously successful. Additionally, Bishop Weathers was inspired with the conceptualization of “SMARTY, the Drug Free Bear.” This was Bishop Weathers first undertaking to publish a children’s book and is seen as the beginning of a literary vehicle that will encourage parents and children to remain DRUG FREE and become one of “SMARTY’s NEW FRIENDS.”

Bishop Weathers was born on May 3, 1926 and went from glory to reward Sunday, October 17, 2010. His pulpit was on Capitol Hill, but his message permeated mortared walls, reaching many different worlds and varied walks of life.
